  • Shin Ponpoko 4-Kyoudai is Keiji Ishii's last ever work for Studio XYZ, as he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer not long before production on the series started.
  • Unlike its predecessor, this series airs on NHK instead of Nippon Television. Producer Makihiko Tsuchiya explained that this is because after the original series ended in 2009, it had reruns on NHK Educational Television.
  • This series breaks the tradition of Studio XYZ's NHK anime having its key animation done by the Roboteam, instead being done by ETOGALS as their TV debut work.
